The Pipes and Drums journeyed into Sydney’s CBD to take part in this year's Sydney Anzac Day March – a truly special and moving occasion for all involved. The day began at St Stephen’s Church, where the band was warmly welcomed thanks to the ongoing generosity of Reverend Dey.
Marching behind our new banner gifted by the Class of 2024, the boys stepped off mid-morning with exceptional discipline and spirit. Their performance was nothing short of outstanding, and the heartfelt response from the crowds reflected this – with many spectators offering words of praise and admiration for the band's professionalism. It was clear that participating in such a significant event was a deep honour for our students, who wore their uniforms and carried themselves with enormous pride.
After a short break for refreshments along Castlereagh Street, the band reassembled to join the massed Pipes and Drums for the Scottish Act of Remembrance – a march along George Street, culminating in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony and lament at the Martin Place cenotaph.
The day concluded with a final heartfelt performance in front of St Stephen’s Church, a fitting way to express our gratitude to Reverend Dey for his hospitality. It was a day that left a lasting impression on all participants and reaffirmed the band's commitment to honouring the spirit of Anzac through music and service.
Twenty cadets from the Knox Ravenswood Cadet Unit (KRCU) were honoured to be invited to join cadets from other schools across Sydney to participate in the NSW 2nd Brigade Parade of Flags, leading the Sydney Anzac Day March.
Upon arrival at Sydney Grammar School, the cadets were warmly welcomed by Australian Army Cadets personnel for a detailed briefing and rehearsal, ensuring they were fully prepared for the prestigious occasion.
Following the rehearsal, the cadets made their way to the head of the parade, where they proudly commenced the march down Elizabeth Street, leading thousands in honouring Australia's servicemen and women.
The sight of 100 flags flying in unison created a truly breathtaking and moving spectacle. It was a deeply meaningful experience for our cadets, who carried their flags with visible pride and a profound sense of respect for the sacrifices commemorated on Anzac Day.
Representing their unit at the forefront of such an important event was a moment of great honour, and one that will stay with them for many years to come.
